TrustAI Presented to the Members of Canarias Excelencia Tecnológica

On January 31, 2025, the TrustAI project was presented during the General Assembly of the Canarias Excelencia Tecnológica (CET) Cluster.
The event provided an opportunity to promote the project among the cluster’s members — companies, educational institutions, and innovation organizations actively involved in digital transformation.

During the presentation, the CET team introduced participants to the main goals and activities of the project, aimed at preparing universities to take a leading role in the ethical and sustainable use of artificial intelligence.
Special attention was given to the development of educational resources for the humanities and to the close collaboration between academia and business in building AI competencies based on ethics, trust, and sustainability.

First Steps in WP2 of the TrustAI Project

The TrustAI: Higher Education as a Catalyst for the Trustworthy and Sustainable use of AI project is progressing with the tasks under WP2 – the development of a curriculum for students in humanitarian fields, focused on the trustworthy and sustainable use of artificial intelligence.

Key Points:

  • Diversity in the teaching staff: Project partners will involve lecturers with diverse backgrounds, including humanities, technical, legal, and environmental disciplines. This will ensure a multidimensional perspective in the development of the curriculum content.
  • Collaboration with businesses: Representatives of companies in related sectors, such as human resources, marketing, social welfare, international development, media, and communications, will be invited. These experts will provide feedback on the curriculum content from a labor market perspective.
  • Objectives: The main goal is to equip students in humanitarian disciplines with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed for the trustworthy use of AI tools in the workplace.

Next Steps:

  • Validation of the curriculum framework design through discussions and feedback from stakeholders.
  • Engaging a broad group of lecturers and business representatives for wider assessment and support of the curriculum content.

WP2 is a key component of the TrustAI project, aiming to prepare students for the ethical and sustainable use of artificial intelligence in various humanitarian contexts.

First Online Meeting of the TrustAI Project

On October 9, 2024, the first online meeting of the TrustAI: Higher Education as a Catalyst for the Trustworthy and Sustainable use of AI project was held. The project is funded by the European Union (project number: 2024-1-BG01-KA220-HED-000249185) and aims to develop sustainable and trustworthy approaches to artificial intelligence within the context of higher education.

The meeting, conducted via Google Meet, included representatives from all partner organizations:

  • ULSIT (Bulgaria)
  • Acta Foundation (Bulgaria)
  • AHE (Poland)
  • MECB (Malta)
  • UniTo (Italy)
  • Clúster Canarias Excelencia Tecnológica (Spain)

Key highlights of the meeting:

  • Partners’ presentations: The meeting began with a brief introduction of the participating organizations and the key individuals involved in the project.
  • TrustAI project overview: Acta Foundation presented the project’s objectives, target groups, expected outcomes, and work packages. A presentation titled “TrustAI Project Overview” was shared and is available in the dedicated Google Drive repository.

  • Financial requirements: Partners were informed about the necessary documents for reporting project activities, including timesheets, contracts, attendance lists, and more.
  • Next steps: The primary task ahead is the development of a curriculum framework (WP2, Activity 1). ULSIT is responsible for this activity. The project coordinator will create a Doodle poll to determine the date for the next online meeting in November.
  • Project logo: The importance of creating a project logo to finalize branding and initiate promotional activities was discussed.

The TrustAI project aims to serve as a catalyst for the sustainable and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence by leveraging the expertise of leading institutions across Europe.

Complete meeting minutes and project documents will be made available to partners via the shared Google Drive folder.

TrustAI Presented to Over 350 Students and Teachers During ULSIT’s Open Doors Week

From December 16–19, 2024, the University of Library Studies and Information Technologies (ULSIT), a project partner in TrustAI, hosted its traditional Open Doors Week – a large-scale event organized by the Faculty of Information Sciences that welcomed more than 350 students and teachers from leading secondary schools across Bulgaria.

The initiative aimed to promote innovation in education, connect secondary and higher education institutions, and foster interest in emerging technologies and digital ethics among young people.

As part of the event, the first outcomes of the TrustAI project, funded by the Erasmus+ programme, were presented to students and educators. The session introduced:

  • The project’s core mission – promoting the ethical and responsible use of Artificial Intelligence;

  • A preview of the AI curriculum for the humanities, developed by the international TrustAI consortium;

  • Examples of AI integration in educational practices, aimed at enhancing digital literacy, critical thinking, and responsible technology use.

🔬 Hands-On Experience in ULSIT’s Labs

Participants had the opportunity to explore ULSIT’s state-of-the-art laboratories, including the AI & VR Lab, IBM Lab, LibLab, SoftLab, the UNESCO Chair, and the Robotics Club. They engaged in live demonstrations, interactive workshops, and discussions led by faculty members and students – including sessions focused on AI tools, virtual reality, and the ethical challenges of emerging technologies.

🤝 Strengthening Educational Partnerships

The forum concluded with the signing of two Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) between ULSIT and partner schools – 31st Secondary School of Foreign Languages “Ivan Vazov” and the Vocational High School of Telecommunications – Sofia – focusing on joint initiatives related to digital education and the integration of AI in the curriculum.

By participating in this national outreach event, TrustAI reaffirmed its commitment to building a future where artificial intelligence is not only advanced, but also ethically grounded and accessible to young learners.
